What I’ve been Watching Lately, my TV Favourites

Every now and then I like to talk about what I’ve been watching on the TV, one of my good friends that sits in the corner of the house. These are a few of my tv favourites.

I have to start with the long awaited feature length documentary about Celine Dion.

I Am Celine Dion

I’m not a huge fan of Celine Dion, I’ve nothing against her, she has an amazing voice and has had some fabulous hits including ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from the film Titanic. (Which was on the same time as the England vs Sweden Euro finals…probably would have been the better watch, both ended in tragedy for the the Brits!)

Anyway, I wanted to watch it because Celine Dion announced last December that she had Stiff Person syndrome. The same condition as me, so of course I wanted to watch it.

It turned out to be mostly about her life and career and talked only a little about Stiff Person Syndrome. Id did write an entire post about the film here. So, I’m not going to repeat myself.

A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder

At the time of writing this is still being shown on BBC but I did binge watch it on iPlayer. I won’t give away any spoilers. The program is based on a YA book and it was quite obvious from the start, but don’t let that put you off because it is really clever and keeps you guessing right to the end. It has a lot of tense moments, and many twists and turns.

The cast is mostly young but it also has the wonderful Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland, Bletchley Circle, Line of Duty.) It also has Mathew Baynton who had me baffled for ages until I realised he was the poet Thomas in the series ‘Ghosts.’

I don’t really want to say any more but a brief outline would be a young girl solves a five year old mystery of a missing girl and the death of another young boy in her town.

Supacell

I also binged Supacell on Netflix. (Why do they have cliffhangers at the end and then give you 15 seconds to decide whether to switch off and do the housework or just carry on watching?)

I love shows with people with super powers and this one caught my eye. It’s written and directed by Rapman who wanted to raise awareness of black people including racism, healthcare bias, gender inequality and mainly Sickle Cell Disease which affects mostly black people.

Again, I don’t want to spoil it for anyone as it’s fairly new, but it’s a real good watch and such an interesting subject. I may come back later and talk about the ending because it raised a lot of conversation between me and my son.

Manifest

I was late to the show but the main reason was because Netflix was missing season 3… how could I miss an entire season and know what was going on? Then I found out I could watch Season 3 on Sky Plus so I dived in and I’ve just finished the third season. I’m about the watch the fourth and last season but I’m already really worried about feeling heartbroken because I’m invested in these characters that seemingly came back from the dead.

Will they find the answers they need to survive? Or will they die like they were supposed to five years ago on a plain crash?

If you’ve not watched it, it’s about a plain that goes missing for five years then suddenly turns up again, but the people on board have no idea how long they have been missing and have not aged a single day. Then the people who come back have visions which they name ‘callings’ and feel they have to help people that they have visions about.

I’ve really enjoyed it so far.

Other programs I’ve been watching

I’ve been kind of feeling bored of a lot of regular programs I watch. I don’t really watch soaps but Eastenders, and I’ve honestly not been catching up with that. I’ve also been doing a fair bit of reading which means less time for television. I did watch Bake Off The Professionals, which I enjoyed but waiting with anticipation every week for something to break or fall. Terrible, I know, but it did happen.

The television has been taken over with football, the Euro’s in which England reached the final but lost, and Tennis, which I’ve had very little interest in. There has also been the horse racing but I’ve lost interest since I stopped matched betting.

I’m not a fan of Love Island, all that smooching is not for me. maybe I’m too old!
