Last weekend we went to the theatre to see a production called Unbound. I’ve not done much with the kids this Summer. The Little Man has had his regular days out with his care worker which he loves and Boo has had several trips out with her friends, she even went into the City with a friend the other day for the first time without an adult. She really is growing up. But, I wanted something for all of us and not trusting the weather I thought a trip to the theatre would be nice.
Unbound
Unbound is a British Youth Musical Theatre production and all the cast were young people. What a great thing to be part of. It’s something that Boo is interested in, but she wants to be part of the background team, or maybe join the band.
The production itself was set in the 80s and had a lot of music. It’s theme was based around being an outsider and trying to fit in. The main character, Iris, had been home schooled, but now she wanted to join a college and be like the other kids. But the other kids treat her differently and play tricks on her.
She inadvertently, wakes a witch after her new ‘friends’ lock her in an old house. And then all hell breaks lose.
The performance was great and these young actors should do really well in the future if it’s the path they’ve decided to follow.
Unfortunately, Star couldn’t join us because she wasn’t well, but Boo and the Little Man were enthralled. They loved it.
It was a great way to spend an afternoon with my kids. As they grow up I know the fun days out at the park, zoo, beach, museums etc will be few and far between. Funnily enough, they still like going for food and shopping if it’s for what ‘they’ want. 🙂
Edit: while reading this back I had a memory of the first time I took the kids to the theatre, we went to see a pirate adventure and it was before I was sick so Boo would have been about 8 years old. While waiting for the show to begin she asked me all serious…is this going to be in 4D!
That is fab that Boo has been having days out with her friends. They grow up so fast.
It sounds like a great show, I love that the cast were all young people. x
The youth theatre is amazing, and it’s something Boo wants to get involved in, but behind the scenes, or playing music (she plays guitar like her Dad)
I am happy you all had a nice time!
Thank you, it was a lovely afternoon’s entertainment.
That sounds like a wonderful production! We saw a showing of Mulan that had an all child cast and those kids blew me away. I would NEVER have been able to do that.
I love theatre. I’m so glad you could take the two to see a great production with young people. I’d certainly enjoy it.
