I’m preparing this post in advance as hopefully I’ll be way to busy today on October 31st. I am spending the afternoon at Disney on Ice with my daughter and then we’ll be dealing with the Trick or Treaters in the evening. I’m hoping I’ll have my pumpkin ready in time. But as for Preparing for Winter, I’ve already made a start.
Preparing for Winter
I’ve normally done most of my Christmas shopping by now but honestly, this year is proving extremely difficult. I have no idea what to buy anyone. Boo and her eldest sister are okay because it’s clothes, clothes, clothes (their tastes are not cheap either, no Primarmi for them!)
But I have been preparing for the cold. I’ve topped up my gas and electricity account so I won’t be left which a huge bill over the winter, it wasn’t hard it just mean paying the same over the summer which was way above what I needed to pay. It would have been nice to have had the extra cash but if it helps knowing I can use my heating without worry.
I’ve topped up the freezer with lots of frozen vegetable. They are great for lovely warming soups or casseroles during the winter months. And I can always add a little fresh meat and bake a loaf of bread.
The biggest changes have been to my wheelchair. With not having a partner to help with popping out last minute I will need to use my wheelchair in colder weather so I’ve prepared myself for that.
I bought a cover for my hand control. It’s not supposed to get wet as it contains all the electrics. So I don’t go out in the rain. But I may have to now so I’ve bought a cover from Amazon.
I have also purchased a wheelchair cover. I’ve tried blankets but I’m always worried they will get caught in my wheels and they have a tendency of falling off. Then I have to find somewhere to put them while inside a building that’s warm. With this cover I can unzip it and push it to the side. It will be difficult to take my feet out but that won’t matter, I can’t use them anyway and they are never warm.
My Wheelchair is powered but I’ve tried it out and it does fit. I’ve even practiced getting in and out. I wish it was more colourful but I’m focusing on warmth over fashion. I do get so very cold in winter and that’s why I avoid going out. The zipper even has a long cord on it so I don’t have to bend down to my feet to pull it up (I can’t bend down to my feet anyway!) Opening will be more difficult but I can wriggle out.

Have a fab time at Disney on Ice!
My girls are mostly getting clothes for Christmas this year, thank goodness they are happy with things from Shein and Primark.
I have been doing the same with my gas & electric, paying a bit extra each month. I am credit with a good buffer to keep us going over the colder months.
I am so glad you got a waterproof cover for your wheelchair and I love the fleecy one too, I hope it helps keep you warm.
Well done with completing Blogtober! x
