There is something about October that I love. I love the spring when the flowers come into bloom, but there is something about Autumn that is just as beautiful and colourful, the changing of the leaves, the colours of the sunset, the change that you can feel all around. But one of the things I love about October the most is Blogtober. The blogging challenge in which you are encouraged to blog every day throughout the month. I’ve been taking part in Blogtober since 2016!
The joy of Blogtober is that you can follow prompts or just post whatever. This year Jenny has given us some interesting ideas for this year, a little different from the usual one line prompts and more aimed at writing practice.
The first prompt is
1. October’s Quiet Moments: Reflect on a small, unnoticed moment from this time of year that often gets overlooked.
For someone like me, life is generally quiet anyway. I haven’t even left the house for nearly two weeks and that is my normal. It was hard to get used to but after eight years of being sick and disabled it has become my life. So, what can I reflect on during this time of year that often gets overlooked.
Most things that come to mind are the ones that are not really overlooked, the change in weather, temperature, the colours of the trees and sky. The addition of extra layers of clothes, the first time you put on your coat, the shorter days and longer nights.
So I’m going for a story from Greek Mythology
Persephone
Persephone was a Greek goddess of the underworld and wife of Hades. She was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter and abducted by Hades when picking flowers on the island of Sicily. Her father wanted her home and demanded this from his brother Hades. It was agreed that she would return but Hades tricked her into eating pomegranate seeds which meant she was tied to the underworld.
The story continues with Persephone having to spent three months of each year in the underworld, starting in Autumn and not returning until Spring. So she symbolises the start of Autumn and her return to her mother Demeter, the start of spring.
So my mostly unnoticed moment is the time Persephone returns to the Underworld and Autumn begins.
Although if you’ve studied Greek mythology you probably know this anyway.
In my quiet life I have plenty of time to reflect and think and it’s a super time to start learning new things. The school term starts at the end of summer and beginning of Autumn. It’s also the longest term so it’s lovely getting to the end of October and the half term holiday.

I actually know the story of Persephone and I am not usually up on Greek mythology.
I love this time of year when the first signs of Autumn come, when there’s still plenty of daylight but I am looking forward to the half term holiday too. hehehe x

I’m catching up on your Blogtober posts. This one is lovely though I’m not one for Greek Mythology. I also can’t think of much that I love or look forward to at this time of the year. I like the ‘Fall colours’ and the coziness. Not the short, darker days.
