The first thing you think of when feeling warm is putting the heating on. But there are lots of other things and here I’m going to go through the things that make me feel warm.
Blankets
When I was young duvets were not a thing…seriously, I’m that old! We had blankets on our beds with a bedspread on top. Now, I have two duvets, one for winter and one for summer. The winter one makes me feel warm, but as I feel the cold really badly I also add an extra blanket. a lot of these blankets I’ve made myself by crochet. In fact one of my ways of keeping warm is by crocheting a blanket, as it gets bigger I get more coverage. I’ve always got a blanket to hand. Here is a little collage of some of the blankets I’ve made myself.
Less Conventional ways of Finding Warmth
We can all find warm by wrapping up, adding layers, using blankets or turning on the heating, but what about more unconventional ways of finding warmth.
Kind words
I always feel an inner warmth when someone takes time out to send me a kind message. It can be e-mail, text, What’s App, Messenger, phone. Just a few kind words of support or just to ask how I’m doing can mean so much to me and they really warm my heart.
Kind Deeds
Just like the kind words, when someone does something nice for me I feel warm inside. It could be something as simple as sending me a little gift, or doing a favour for me. The same goes for when I can do something for someone else. I love giving whatever I can and that’s not a lot at the moment but if I can help I will. And it makes me feel warm.
A Hot Drink
Is there anything more comforting that a hot cup of chocolate on a cold winters day? I’m not a huge coffee fan but I love a nice cup of tea and the feeling of warmth it gives. And when Christmas time comes around it’s great to warm up with a cup of hot mulled wine. I’m also a fan of herbal teas, I love anything fruity or minty or even green tea. But when you are not feeling too well, there is nothing better than a hot drink of lemon tea with honey. (or the medicinal equivalent.)
Socks
If my feet are cold then I am cold. Unfortunately, thanks to my broken nervous system my feet are always cold, that’s why you’ll find me in socks and fluffy slippers even in the winter. I love my socks, and although most of them are the fluffy, warm kind, I do like other socks too, especially if they have cats on them.
Hugs
I’m not a hugging kind of person. I find it difficult being in close contact with people. But sometimes, there is nothing more warming than a hug. Don’t get me wrong, I hug my family ALL the time. But when you need that warm feeling in your body or your heart, then a hug is simply the best.
Family
I love my family and even though life can be difficult sometimes, when we do get the warm moments they are really special. Only last night I had a moment with my older kids. First up, I was about to start dinner and big son was helping me, but my back went into spasm. He quickly cleared my chair off (which was temporarily being using as a washing pile holder.) Once cleared he got me sat down and I started to cry. Right at this time my eldest daughter arrived home from work. She was straight in with the gentle hugs (After taking her wet coat off) and their kindness helped. It didn’t stop there though, they set to making dinner. While I ‘supervised’ from my chair. We decided to entertain each other with our current favourite tunes which was really nice. The kitchen was full of warmth and joy and the food was soon on the table.
What sort of things make you feel warm?

I have a couple of blankets for downstairs and I love them. I have them over me when I am on my laptop or watching TV.
Aww! The less conventional ways of finding warmth are so lovely. I do love a hot cup of tea, in the colder months I often make one just to warm my hands. x
